Tattoo Aftercare

Tattoo Aftercare Instructions with a Derm Bandage:

Leave the Derm Bandage On (Second Skin)
Your tattoo will be covered with a Derm bandage to protect it from bacteria and external irritants. Keep the bandage on for 3-5 days, as advised by Kurtis.

  1. Remove the Bandage Carefully
After the recommended time (3-5 days), gently peel off the bandage in a hot-self care- style shower. Its best to try removing it at the end of your shower so the hot water and steam have time to soften the bandage. Avoid pulling too quickly to prevent damaging the tattoo.

  2. Clean Your Tattoo
Once the bandage is off, wash your tattoo with a mild, fragrance-free, anti-bacterial soap. Pat dry with a clean towel. If the bandage was removed early due to damage or peeling back on its own, allow to air dry instead of patting dry with a towel.

  3. Apply Moisturizer
After cleaning, apply a thin layer of water-based, fragrance-free lotion (Lubriderm, Curel, etc) to keep the area hydrated. I do not recommend the use of petroleum-based products (Vaseline, Aquaphor, A&D ointment, etc) as they can cause adverse effects during the healing process if over applied.

  4. Avoid Sun Exposure and Water Immersion
Protect your tattoo from direct sunlight and avoid soaking it in water (no swimming or baths) until fully healed. Do not use tanning oils or sunscreen on your tattoo for the first 30 days.

  5. Monitor the Healing Process
Look out for signs of infection such as excessive redness or unusual discharge. Contact your artist or a healthcare professional if you notice any issues.

  6. Long-Term Care
Aftercare is not just while your tattoo is healing. To keep your tattoo looking vibrant and stunning, take care of your skin by drinking plenty of water to stay hydrated, daily application of lotion, and using sunscreen to protect your tattoo from harmful UV rays!

The Ultimate Guide to Proper Tattoo Aftercare with a Temporary bandage:

Ensuring your tattoo heals properly is essential for maintaining its vibrancy and preventing complications. Here's a comprehensive aftercare guide tailored for your new ink:

  • 1. Follow Your Artist’s Aftercare Instructions

Always adhere to the aftercare instructions provided by Kurtis to ensure optimal healing.

  • 2. Clean Your Tattoo Gently

Wash your tattoo with warm/hot water and an antibacterial fragrance-free soap (Dial Gold). Avoid scrubbing or exfoliating and allow the tattoo to air-dry. Do not pat with what you think may be a clean towel or paper towel. Your new tattoo is considered to be an open wound for the first 72 hours (3 days), it is during this time that your tattoo is the most susceptible to infection. Pet dander is the #1 cause of infection with a new tattoo, so if you have pets be mindful and wash your tattoo frequently!

  • 3. Moisturize Regularly

Use a water-based, fragrance-free lotion (Lubriderm, Curel, etc) to keep your tattoo hydrated and promote healing. I do not recommend the use of petroleum-based products (Vaseline, Aquaphor, A&D ointment, etc) as they can cause adverse effects during the healing process if over applied.

  • 4. Protect Your Tattoo from the Sun

Avoid direct sun exposure during healing. After 30 days you can apply sunscreen to protect your tattoo, and keep it looking vibrant.

  • 5. Resist the Urge to Scratch

Allow scabs to fall off naturally. Scratching can cause scarring and color loss. When it itches that usually means the tattoo is dry, apply a thin layer of lotion to cure the urge. If the itch persists, you can smack your tattoo but do not scratch it.

  • 6. Avoid Water Submersion

Do not soak your tattoo in water; showers are fine, but avoid swimming and baths until fully healed.

  • 7. Watch for Infection

If you notice excessive redness, swelling, or unusual discharge, contact a healthcare professional.

  • 8. Long-Term Tattoo Care

Aftercare is not just while your tattoo is healing. To keep your tattoo looking vibrant and stunning take care of your skin by drinking plenty of water to stay hydrated, daily application of lotion, and using sunscreen to protect your tattoo from harmful UV rays!

By following these steps, your tattoo will remain a stunning piece of art for years to come.

Failure to properly follow aftercare will void any guarantee of work for the purposes of a free touch up!
